US Senate Probe Says BMW Imported Cars Tied to Forced Labor: NYT

German carmaker BMW AG imported thousands of vehicles that included parts banned under a US law targeting forced labor in China, the New York Times reported, citing a Senate committee investigation.

BMW shipped at least 8,000 Mini cars to the US that contained LAN transformers — which allow a vehicle’s electronic components to communicate with one another — produced by Sichuan Jingweida Technology Group, known as JWD, according to the report. In December, the Chinese company was added to a US government list of firms that Washington says takes part in forced labor in Xinjiang, the Times said.
