US Citizenship and Immigration Services expects to issue all available employment-based green cards from a record surplus this fiscal year after thousands went unused in FY 2021.
The agency faced a Sept. 30 end-of-fiscal-year deadline to issue 280,000 employment-based visas, twice the number available in a typical year. Securing a green card offers long-term certainty to workers on temporary visas like H-1Bs and removes barriers to changing jobs and employers.
