The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is suing United Parcel Service over its buyout offer to workers, alleging it violates the company’s collective bargaining agreement.
The Teamsters filed a complaint with the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts Monday asking for a preliminary injunction to prevent UPS from rolling out its Driver Choice Program, which offers delivery drivers a one-time payment if they agree to leave their jobs.
UPS announced the Driver Choice Program last month as part of its attempt to reduce its workforce by 30,000 this year, mostly through voluntary resignations and national attrition.
