Unum Loses Disability Benefits Case to Former Workday Employee

Unum Life Insurance Company of America must pay disability benefits to a former Workday employee suffering from depression and other mental health issues, a federal judge in California ruled.

Myah Evers Schwartz worked as a marketing manager for Workday Inc. until November 2021, when she and her treating physicians said her depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, and borderline personality disorder diagnoses ultimately cost her her job. She sued Unum under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act in April 2024 after the insurer denied her disability claim.
