A long-running dispute over United Behavioral Health’s internal guidelines for mental health coverage is moving forward after a federal magistrate judge took a broad view of the issues left open by the Ninth Circuit’s high-profile ruling in the case.

United argued that the Ninth Circuit’s August decision—which replaced the appeals court’s two prior opinions in the case—left the district court with few issues left to resolve and an obligation to enter judgment for the insurer on various fronts.
