United Airlines Settles $305,000 Religious Discrimination Suit

United Airlines Inc. will pay $305,000 and furnish other relief to settle a religious bias lawsuit, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Tuesday.

The company allegedly refused to allow a Buddhist pilot diagnosed with alcohol dependency an alternate support group after he objected to the religious content of Alcoholics Anonymous. Due to the alleged refusal to provide accommodations, the pilot was unable to obtain a medical certificate to permit future flight, said the agency.
