Unions Sue Over Trump Targeting Visa Holders’ Online Speech (1)

The Trump administration is violating the First Amendment by monitoring the social media of visa holders and US legal residents and taking immigration enforcement action against noncitizens whose viewpoints it dislikes, a group of labor unions claimed in a federal lawsuit.

The plaintiffs, led by the United Auto Workers, asked a federal court in Manhattan to block the State Department and Department of Homeland Security from continuing those surveillance efforts. They said the government’s efforts include use of artificial intelligence and other automated monitoring systems, and have chilled the online speech of thousands of union members.
