Union Pacific Worker With Prosthesis Gets $3.8 Million for Bias

Union Pacific Railroad Co. must pay a former trainman more than $3.8 million for disability discrimination because it failed to show his below-the-knee prosthesis rendered him unable to safely perform his job’s essential functions, a federal jury in Idaho ruled.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho found both that Thomas Campbell was illegally removed from the trainman position and that the railroad failed to accommodate his disability, according to a verdict form entered Tuesday.
