Union Election, Charge Filings Surge Most Since ‘50s, NLRB Says

The number of workers seeking union representation and filing unfair labor practice charges against their employers is increasing at a rate unseen since the 1950s, according to the National Labor Relations Board.

The agency took in 1,317 more unfair labor practice charges from October 2022 through March 2023 than it did during the same period last year, which amounted to 9,592 filings and a 16% increase. This trend carried over to the number of representation election petitions filed, which increased from 1,174 last year to 1,200 this year, the NLRB said in a statement Friday.
