Union Decertification Request Filed Too Late, NLRB Official Says

An NLRB regional director has dismissed a Securitas Security Services union decertification campaign at Harvard University, ruling that the unit’s newly ratified labor contract barred the attempt to unseat the union.

Walter Terzano, a Securitas worker at Harvard, filed a petition for an election decertification on April 7, 2022, six days after the unit’s employees—represented by the Service Employees International Union—ratified a new collective bargaining agreement. NLRB Region 1 Director Laura Sacks said in the Feb. 15 decision that the presence of a CBA nullifies the petition.
