Ukrainians Fleeing War Sue Over Agency Work Permit Requirement

A group of Ukraine nationals displaced by the Russian invasion of their home country are suing US Citizenship and Immigration Services over requirements that they apply for authorization to work in the US.

The US has admitted about 100,000 Ukrainians since the war with Russia began in March. But many have been stuck in backlogs for work permits, and others have yet to apply because of prohibitive costs, despite a recent law that should make them automatically authorized for employment, according to a class action filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
