UC Santa Cruz Grad Student Workers to Strike Monday, Union Says

Graduate student workers at the University of California Santa Cruz are being asked to walk off the job May 20, putting the institution’s operations during the final weeks of the spring quarter in jeopardy.

United Auto Workers Local 4811, which represents a total of roughly 48,000 students across 10 University of California campuses in the state, said Friday that UC Santa Cruz workers would be the first in a series of compounding strikes to protest the university system’s alleged violations of state labor law.
