Uber Vows to Leave Minneapolis After Council Mandates Driver Pay

Minneapolis will mandate minimum pay rates for ride-share drivers such as those working for Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc. after the city council voted to override the mayor’s veto.

The council voted 10-3 on Thursday to reject Mayor Jacob Frey’s (D) veto, clearing the way for the driver pay requirements to take effect May 1. The law will require that ride-share companies pay their Minneapolis drivers at least $1.40 per mile plus $0.51 per minute for time spent carrying a passenger, not to fall below $5 per ride.
