Uber Driver’s Age, Disability Bias Claims Sent to Arbitrator

A former Uber driver must convince an arbitrator that his age and disability bias allegations against the ride-hailing giant belong in court, a federal judge in Chicago ruled.

The Jan. 24 decision by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois is a reminder that while courts typically resolve the gateway issue of whether parties have agreed to arbitrate a dispute rather than take it to court, the parties may agree in advance to instead allow an arbitrator to decide such questions.
