Uber Defeats Driver’s Bid to Avoid Race, Sex Bias Arbitration

A Long Island Uber driver failed to convince a federal judge to keep in court claims that the ride-hailing company terminated his contract because he’s a Black man.

The ruling Wednesday by the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York turned on several principles of federal arbitration and New York contract law. These include that a worker who has opted out of a prior employment arbitration agreement typically must opt out again when that agreement is updated with a new contract.
