Uber Can’t Bar Workers From Discussing Lawsuits: NLRB Lawyer (1)

Uber Technologies Inc. violated federal labor law when it told employees not to talk about ongoing wage lawsuits against the company with co-workers, the news media, or other third-parties, the National Labor Relations Board’s legal advice unit said.

Although Uber has an interest in limiting who speaks for the company about a lawsuit, its directive went too far by covering employees’ personal speech, NLRB Associate General Counsel Jayme Sophir said in a memorandum made public Dec. 17. Uber could protect its business interests “with a much more narrowly drawn proscription that would not silence employees altogether,” Sophir wrote.
