Uber Beats Drivers’ Bid to Litigate Security Breach Class Action

Uber Technologies Inc. won’t face a class action in court alleging it mishandled a data security breach and driver and rider information after the Ninth Circuit affirmed an arbitration agreement applied.

Rideshare drivers who pick up and drop off passengers at airports may be compelled to arbitrate because they don’t fall under a Federal Arbitration Act exception for workers involved in interstate commerce, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said.

The court rejected William Grice’s argument that the exception applied because his passengers engaged in commerce beyond one state.
