U.S. Congressional Building Workers’ Hazard Pay Suits Dismissed

The Architect of the Capitol defeated claims that it failed to pay employees responsible for maintaining U.S. House lawmakers’ buildings an environmental hazard premium for working around lead paint and asbestos, after a federal trial court in Washington found the government immune from suit.

The Congressional Accountability Act, which extends some employee rights to legislative employees, including minimum wage and overtime, doesn’t waive immunity for a claim for environmental hazard pay, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said.
