TWU Elects New President, Who Vows Restructure of Organizing, Executive Council

Transport Workers Union members Sept. 25 elected by acclamation a new international president, Harry Lombardo, who immediately announced plans to shake up his executive council with more local leader members and redefine organizing throughout the union.

Lombardo, who served as TWU’s international executive vice president up until his election to a four-year presidential term at the union’s quadrennial convention in Las Vegas this week, ran unopposed only after Joseph Gordon, TWU’s secretary-treasurer during the prior administration, withdrew his name from candidacy just before the election, Jamie Horwitz, a TWU spokesman, told Bloomberg BNA Sept. 26.
