Two Novelty, Production Union Officials In New Jersey Charged With Embezzlement

PHILADELPHIA—Two top officials of Novelty and Production Workers Local 148 were arrested Sept. 21 on charges of embezzling $375,000 from the union by awarding themselves unauthorized salary increases and bonuses, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey said in a statement (United States v. Arena).

In a 29-count indictment filed Sept. 1 in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and unsealed Sept. 21, Stephen P. Arena, president of Local 148, and David J.
