Trump’s Mine Safety Chief Commits to Regulatory Overhaul Plan

The Mine Safety and Health Administration will rollback or overhaul 19 of its mining regulations, the agency’s leader told lawmakers.

“Those are still in the pipeline, we will continue on those 19 initiatives,” Wayne Palmer, the assistant secretary of labor for mine safety and health told the House Education and the Workforce Committee.

The proposed changes include eliminating discretionary authority for MSHA district managers to approve the contents of mine operators’ ventilation plans as well as eliminating outdated provisions that aren’t reflected in current enforcement practices.
