The US Senate advanced President Donald Trump’s nominee to oversee the federal government’s private-sector pension insurer.
Janet Dhillon, a former Republican chair of the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, will, once confirmed, assume a five-year term as director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. The independent agency is responsible for protecting pension benefits for more than 30 million American workers and retirees.
The Senate voted 51-46 on Friday to advance her nomination as part of a large group of nominees, including other labor officials, who were advanced together.
