Trump’s DOL Open to Revising Embattled Biden-Era Silica Rule

The Mine Safety and Health Administration, part of the US Labor Department, plans to engage in limited rulemaking to replace parts of a Biden-era regulation that would require mines to cut respirable silica levels in half.

The agency asserted that it will seek comments on portions of the silica rule currently under legal challenge by the Sorptive Minerals Institute, an association representing companies that surface mine the absorbent clay used for cat litter and a host of other products, in the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
