Trump Taps Lewis Brisbois Partner for Key Labor Department Role

July 1, 2025, 6:32 PM UTC

President Donald Trump nominated Rosario Palmieri, a partner at Lewis Brisbois, to be the Labor Department’s assistant secretary of labor for policy.

If confirmed by the Senate, Palmieri will lead the DOL’s policy and regulation arm. He would oversee the department’s rulemaking process as it attempts to roll backlabor regulations under Trump’s deregulation mandate.

Palmieri’s nomination is a potential boon to businesses and industry groups supportive of broad-based deregulation. He argued before a Senate government affairs panel in 2017 against a bevy of federal regulations he said were overly burdensome, while he was serving as National Association of Manufacturers vice president, and is supportive of retrospectively reviewing existing regulation, according to his testimony.

At Lewis Brisbois, Palmieri currently leads the firm’s Administrative Law & Regulatory Practice. Prior to joining the firm he served as the associate administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, a branch of the Office of Management and Budget that oversees the implementation of federal regulations.
