About 1,000 members of UNITE HERE Local 54 began a work stoppage at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J., after negotiators failed to reach a new labor contract by a July 1 strike deadline, the union said.
The casino-resort failed to make an offer that the Local 54 negotiating committee could recommend to its membership of cooks, housekeepers, bellmen and servers at the facility, according to the union’s written statement.
The local employs about a third of the workforce at the Taj, which is owned by billionaire Carl Icahn’s company Icahn Enterprises.
