The owner of the Trump Taj Mahal Aug. 3 announced intent to shutter the Atlantic City, N.J., casino-resort after Labor Day weekend, a move that comes amid a months-long strike by about 1,000 UNITE HERE Local 54-represented workers due to a labor contract impasse regarding benefits.
Taj manager Tony Rodio said in a written statement that the Taj “is losing multi-millions a month, and now with this strike, we saw no path to profitability.” He added that management has “reached the point where we have no choice but to close the Taj after Labor Day weekend.”
