Trump Signs Bill Making It Easier to Discipline VA Workers

Employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs will face expedited discipline for performance problems or misconduct, under a bill signed by President Donald Trump June 23.

The VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act (S. 1094) will allow the VA secretary to provide employees with just 15 days’ notice of firings, suspensions of more than 14 days, and demotions, compared with 30 days’ notice now. Also, individuals who have been removed from the VA will no longer be kept on the department’s payroll while they appeal their removals.

The VA is the second-largest federal agency, with about 340,000 workers. ...
