President
Mack has served as a chancellor for the Florida Department of Education, as well as a professor, lecturer, and administrator at various Florida universities, according to his LinkedIn profile.
If confirmed by the Senate, Mack would lead the DOL’s largest subagency, which oversees the federal-state unemployment insurance system and workforce development programs.
Mack would have the opportunity to revamp the nation’s 80-year-old registered apprenticeship program, which aims to train workers with new skills.
During the Biden administration, the ETA proposed an overhaul that would have made major changes to job training requirements, but pulled it back after Trump won a second term.
Both worker and business advocates had criticized portions of that proposal, with industry groups saying it would limit flexibility in the job training programs they offer and restrict training programs from expanding into new industries.
If confirmed, Mack could also tackle the issue of fraud in unemployment claims, which Republicans have targeted in the past.
The ETA also is in charge of processing employer requests for certain worker visas.
