A federal judge struck down a Health and Human Services rule that would have allowed health-care workers to deny care based on their religious beliefs, citing its conflict with Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, among other reasons.
‘Undue Hardship’: Title VII already requires employers to reasonably accommodate worker exemption requests, unless the employee’s ask would exert an undue hardship on the business. The rule wouldn’t have allowed employers to claim that hardship, which would substantially conflict with Title VII, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said.
