Trump Backs Trans-Care Ban, Flips US Position at Supreme Court

The Trump administration told the US Supreme Court that states can constitutionally ban gender-affirming treatments for minors, flipping the federal government’s position in a high-profile case.

In a letter to the court Friday, Deputy Solicitor General Curtis Gannon said the Justice Department no longer adheres to the Biden administration’s position that a Tennessee law, known as SB1, violates the US Constitution’s equal protection guarantee.

“The department has now determined that SB1 does not deny equal protection on account of sex or any other characteristic,” he wrote.
