Trucking Company Hit With $23 Million Pension Bill by NLRB Judge

A trucking company owes a union pension fund more than $23 million in a case that arose from events going back more than 15 years, a National Labor Relations Board judge ruled.

Oak Harbor Freight Lines Inc. must pay the Teamsters 206 Employers Trust $19.7 million in delinquent contributions and $3.9 million in liquidated damages plus interest, Administrative Law Judge Brian Gee held Friday.

The NLRB is normally restricted to make-whole remedies only, but it can order employers to pay damages and interest if the applicable collective bargaining agreement requires them, Gee said.
