Trader Joe’s Accused of Threatening Workers, Banning Union Talk

U.S. labor officials are charging Trader Joe’s with illegally threatening, interrogating, and surveilling workers at a California store.

Managers at the grocer’s Rockridge store in Oakland, Calif., told workers they would lose their manager’s help and the location might close down if they continued with their push to unionize with Trader Joe’s United in March 2023, according to a National Labor Relations Board regional director complaint obtained by Bloomberg Law on Wednesday.

The complaint, issued by the NLRB Region 32 office, accuses the store’s leadership of instituting an unlawful rule banning workers from engaging in “pro or anti union campaigning” ...
