Top Labor Board Lawyer Wants New Law on Post-Contract Raises (2)

The National Labor Relations Board should overturn its Obama-era precedent requiring employers to continue giving annual raises spelled out in collective bargaining agreements after those contracts expire, according to the agency’s general counsel’s office.

Employers should be able to stop granting such wage increases as long as it doesn’t break with their past practices that predated their labor agreements, the GC’s office said in an advice memo made public July 16.

The GC’s office told an NLRB regional director to issue a complaint against Providence St. John’s Health Center for stopping annual raises because that conflicted with its past practices. ...
