Top DOL Lawyer’s Whistleblower Claims ‘Meritless,’ Deputy Says

Concerns from a top Labor Department litigator that agency Secretary Eugene Scalia meddled in a contentious pay discrimination case against Oracle America Inc. are “meritless,” a DOL official said in a letter responding to inquiries by a congressional Democrat.

“Ms. Herold’s retaliation allegations rest on erroneous speculation regarding matters she is not in a position to know,” Labor Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Joe Wheeler said in a letter Friday to U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, who chairs the House Appropriations Committee’s sub-committee on labor, health and human services.
