Think Tank Says Time Running Short For Injury, Illness Prevention Program Rule

If the Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration does not issue a proposed rule on its injury and illness prevention program regulation by the end of the year, the initiative is unlikely to take effect before President Obama’s first term expires, according to a report by the Center for Progressive Reform.

Under the program rule, employers would be required to find and fix safety hazards in their own workplaces. David Michaels, assistant secretary of labor for occupational safety and health, repeatedly has called the rulemaking his top regulatory priority.
