Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed the Tennessee Information Protection Act into law on Thursday, making his state the eighth with comprehensive consumer data privacy protections.
The legislation, which received unanimous support in both houses of the state General Assembly, enhances consumers’ control over the personal data that businesses collect about them.
The enactment of Tennessee’s measure follows closely behind a similar privacy measure signed into law in Indiana on May 2.
