Performers in Spanish-language telenovelas on the Telemundo TV network will be classified as employees, not independent contractors, following a settlement announced by SAG-AFTRA Oct. 23.
The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists settled three unfair labor practice charges brought against Telemundo on behalf of telenovela actors after a year of litigation. The deal also came just days before a hearing at the National Labor Relations Board, according to the guild.
SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris called the settlement “a major victory for Spanish-language performers.”
