Tech Recruiter Settles With DOJ Over H-1B Visa Worker Preference

A California-based IT recruiting firm will pay a $17,000 penalty and overhaul its job advertising practices as part of a settlement with the Justice Department over claims it discriminated against US-born workers.

SpringShine Consulting Inc.'s hiring posts indicated a preference for workers on H-1B specialty occupation temporary work visas and deterred US workers from applying for positions, the DOJ said in an announcement of the settlement Thursday. The agency opened an investigation last year into an advertisement on the recruiting website Dice.com seeking applications from IT consultants who required employer-sponsored work visas.
