Teamsters, DOJ Move to End Decades-Old Monitorship of Union (1)

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the Trump administration are jointly asking a federal judge to further eliminate oversight of the union that has spanned nearly four decades.

The union and the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York agreed to end the monitorship after the Teamsters “demonstrated its ability to conduct effective internal investigations and audits” they announced Wednesday.

The move, which still must be approved by the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, would end a 37-year federal monitorship into one of the nation’s largest labor groups. The Teamsters and the ...
