Sysco Settles California Truckers’ Break Claims for $500,000

Sysco Corp. will pay $500,000 to resolve meal and rest break claims brought by more than 160 Central California truckers, after a California federal court signed off on the deal.

The plaintiffs overcame the court’s initial reservations about the fairness, adequacy, and reasonableness of the class settlement.

The $500,000 fund represents approximately 11% of the total relief sought, but the lower amount is acceptable given the “serious litigation risks faced by plaintiff and the class,” Judge Dale A. Drozd of U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California said Dec. 18, granting final approval.
