Supreme Court Turns Down Union Spat Involving SEIU Trusteeship

The US Supreme Court declined to reopen a dispute over Service Employees International Union President Mary Kay Henry’s decision to put a Chicago affiliate under an emergency trusteeship to deal with mismanagement.

The justices on Monday rejected former SEIU Local 73 President Christine Boardman’s bid to revive her lawsuit alleging Henry imposed the trusteeship in 2016—which removed Boardman as president of the local and terminated her union membership—as punishment for dissenting speech that’s protected by federal labor law.
