Supreme Court Declines Police Union Challenge to Discipline Law

A police union was dealt a setback in its constitutional challenge to a District of Columbia law prohibiting negotiations over officer disciplinary matters after the US Supreme Court decided not to take up the dispute.

The justices Monday declined a petition by an affiliate of the 350,000-member Fraternal Order of Police to examine a federal appeals court order upholding a police reform initiative the District of Columbia Council passed in summer 2020 following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.
