Study Says Super Bowl Victors Often Hail From City With Lower Jobless Rate

In 16 of the past 20 Super Bowls, the winning team has been from the metropolitan area with the lower unemployment rate, according to an analysis released Jan. 31 by RiseSmart, a San Jose, Calif.-based outplacement and recruiting firm.

This year’s Super Bowl pits the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Green Bay Packers. The unemployment rate in Pittsburgh was 8.1 percent through November 2010, compared to a rate of 7.7 percent in the Green Bay, Wis., metropolitan area, giving the edge to the Packers, RiseSmart said.
