Attorneys may soon have a new tool to predict whether judges would classify a worker as an employee or an independent contractor. And the study behind it was funded by the Labor Department during former President Barack Obama‘s tenure.

Whether DOL litigators in the current administration will want to leverage the findings in court remains to be seen. Regardless, private attorneys who practice in this area said they’re looking forward to checking out the results.
