Striking UC Workers to Pack Up Pickets

Thousands of on-strike University of California employees were still picketing May 9, even as five medical centers, 10 student health centers, and 10 campuses prepared for a return to normal the next day. Temporary replacement workers will be heading for their next gigs.

Medical centers from San Diego to Davis had canceled surgeries, rescheduled appointments, and hired workers to fill in the gaps as three unions still negotiating with UC over contracts went on strike.
