Steak ‘n Shake Managers Nationwide to Get Option to Join Pay Suit

Steak ‘n Shake Inc. restaurant managers nationwide can expect to receive notices of a lawsuit alleging they’ve been underpaid.

Judge John A. Ross of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri granted conditional certification in a lawsuit filed by a group of Steak ‘n Shake managers who say they’re owed overtime pay because they primarily performed production tasks rather than managerial duties. Steak ‘n Shake classified them as exempt from overtime because they were designated as managers.

Steak ‘n Shake has to provide names and contact information for managers at 364 of its 500 locations. The managers ...
