Starbucks Scores Rare Win From NLRB Judge in Labor Law Ruling

Starbucks’ conduct during a union organizing campaign at a Memphis café complied with federal labor law, a National Labor Relations Board judge ruled.

Administrative Law Judge Geoffrey Carter dismissed several allegations against the coffee giant in his decision Thursday, including that the company enforced its attendance policy more strictly in response to union activity and illegally surveilled workers.

The ruling marks a rare unequivocal win for Starbucks in an unfair labor practice proceeding at the ALJ level. NLRB judges have found labor law violations in most of the more than 100 decisions in Starbucks cases they’ve handed down since 2021. ...
