Starbucks Ordered to Reopen Two Cafés in Upstate New York (1)

Starbucks Corp. must reopen a pair of unionized stores in Ithaca, N.Y. that it closed to discourage labor organizing at other locations, a National Labor Relations Board judge ruled.

The company will have an opportunity during compliance proceedings to show that it would be unduly burdensome to restore operations at the now-shuttered shops, Administrative Law Judge Geoffrey Carter said in his Friday decision.

But Starbucks can only present evidence that wasn’t available at the time of the unfair labor practice trial, said Carter, who held that reopening the locations wouldn’t be excessively onerous based on the record thus far. ...
