Spanish Language Horse Race Announcer Resolves Equal Pay Lawsuit

New York Racing Association Inc. and a Black Latino Spanish-language horse racing announcer resolved a lawsuit alleging he was paid significantly less than his White English-language counterparts, New York federal court records show.

Luis Alberto Grandison sued in August 2020 under federal, New York state, and New York City anti-bias laws and New York state pay equity law. He was cheated out of equal pay despite raising the NYRA’s profile and wagering levels by drawing in Hispanic racing enthusiasts as the U.S.'s first full-time Spanish-language horse racing announcer, he said.
