Sixth Circuit Dismisses General Motors Bribery Damages Complaint

A federal appeals court has tossed General Motors’ claim that it suffered competitive damage due to the recent United Auto Workers corruption scandal.

In an opinion Thursday, the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit said GM couldn’t demonstrate harm under a federal law that offers damages for victims of racketeering. GM had argued that the bribery scheme between Fiat-Chrysler and the UAW—in which auto executives plied UAW officials with lavish gifts—left the company at a competitive disadvantage.
